Book Review- Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
I love The Witchlands series. I've also met Susan Dennard once, and she was very sweet and knowledgeable. She had some fun stories about writing the books, like what got scrapped, what needed to change before it became what it did. (Fun fact: Barnes and Noble wouldn't accept Threadwitch as a title from her because they thought it would sound too much like a knitting book. If she had named a book Threadwitch, they would not buy it and sell it at their store. So she had to push that story out and is writing the third Witchlands book, Bloodwitch, now; slated for a 2019 release.)

MY THOUGHTS ON- CHARACTERS
Let me start this off by first saying how much I love Safiya and Iseult's friendship. Two girls who have each others backs no matter what and would die for each other. That is the ultimate goal right there. As is the relationship between Kullen and Merik. They're all fantastic characters.
Safiya fon Hasstrel is a Truthwitch, and a badass. She is quick, sharp-witted, kind, brash and not flawless. She does make mistakes, and many of them. She knows how to fight and dance and loves to gamble. She can hold her own in a fight and she isn't afraid to call people out for their racist and wrong ways. She is who I wish I could be.
Iseult det Midenzi is a Threadwitch and amazing. She is calm under pressure, smart, kind, and Safi's right hand woman. Safi is the right hand, always distracting the mark while Iz is the left hand, picking the pocket. She is quiet, skilled with her magic, and also good at combat.
Prince Merik Nihar is a Windwitch and a great leader just trying to help his country. Always trying to go the legal route (ahem, Vivia) ((we get to meet her in Windwitch)), and always there for his threadbrother, Kullen. He is a respected Admiral, a becon of hope for his country in a time of need, and a man who knows his way around a dance floor.
Monk Adeuan is a Bloodwitch and possibly the most feared man in all of the Witchlands. Able to smell what magic a witch has, remember it, and the hunt them down leagues away is pretty feared among witches gone rogue or in trouble with the law, and especially so for a forbidden Truthwitch. He is three times as fast as the normal witch and unable to die unless it's from old age or decapitation. All wounds heal given proper time and he can stop a witch in cold blood (see what I did there) by using his magic. I love him.
There is not much to say about Monk Evrane except that she is a believer. She saved Iz about six and a half years before, she trained Aeudan in the monastery and is Prince Merik's aunt, sister to King Serafin Nihar. She is an amazing woman.
MY THOUGHTS ON- PLOT
I think this book had everything it needs. Good characters, enough world building to let the reader understand the story and still learn about it as you go along, and a good pace. It starts out slow, and builds and builds and builds right up until about the last 10 chapters where you can't put the book down and you need more more more until the book ends and you get sad that you don't have the next book. I loved it.
