Book Review: Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
This is my favorite book in the Illuminae Files (so far. #Obsidio) I think I love this one more because of the characters. The plot is pretty similar, but the characters are so vastly different that it works. I cannot wait to see what these guys do in Obsidio.
Speaking of, they just announced tour dates for the US today! They announced Australia a few days ago, and it's already sold out! I hope everyone who gets to go has a fantastic time.

MY THOUGHTS ON: CHARACTERS
Hanna Donnely is a badass. She is popular, pretty, proficient in most forms of martial arts and knowledgeable about war strategy and heroes. She and Kady will be unstoppable. They will have a sass-off, calling it now. But not in a girls-against-girls kind of way. In a This-is-funny-lets-keep-doing-this kind of way.
Nik Malikov Is one of my new favorite characters. and given that Jay Kristoff said he looked like Bellamy Blake from The 100 doesn't hurt either. (That was the picture used. If you want to read his mini interview, go to the Gemina Goodreads page link below and it is the first comment on the book.)
He is from a crime family, loves his cousin to death, and is all tatted up. He also happens to be Hanna's drug dealer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He has much more screen time than Ezra did which is why I think I like him more.
Ella Malikov is Nik's cousin. Paralyzed from the waist down and on an oxygen mask, she spends her time on the computer, hacking and coding. She is smart, funny and fiercely protective of Nik. She also makes fun of him a lot too. He doesn't get away that easily.
MY THOUGHTS ON: PLOT
It is pretty similar to Illuminae. On a ship, bad guys come, fight the bad guys all over the ship, escape the ship from certain doom. But it is so much more. There were a few plot twists at the end like BAM BAM BAM and I nearly had a heart attack from how surprised and outraged I was. I couldn't believe the authors would DO something like that. And that. And that.
It still had the same style of writing, with all of the files and emails and texts. My favorite parts to read were the group chat texts between the three of them and the in person conversations between Hanna and Nik. And one of my favorite parts of the book was explaining the flower for her (I won't spoil it, but if you've read it, you know) and When she is talking with Jackson over comms while Falker is with him and she is setting the traps. It as so cool!
